Protect our Children form online predators, cyber stalkers and sex offenders

Online stalking, also known as cyberstalking,
is a form of Internet harassment.

It can exist online or escalate into the real world where a computer
sex offender will prey on inexperienced Internet users.

When the victims are young people,  we call any of these stalkers
   an "
online predator."

They're After Our Children

Our children are our Nation's most valuable asset. They represent the bright future of our country and hold our hopes for a better Nation.

Our children are also the most vulnerable members of society.

Protecting them against the fear of crime and from becoming victims of rape, assault, and other crimes must be a national priority and our Number 1 priority.
Protect our children from an online predator

Unfortunately the same advances in computer and telecommunication technology that allow our children to reach out to new sources of knowledge and cultural experiences are also leaving them vulnerable to
exploitation and harm by con-men, computer-sex offenders, sociopaths, and cyberpaths.

70% of children online are EXPOSED to pornography.
We all know the Dangers
and it's our responsibility as Parents and Grandparents to protect our children from the predators who use various ploys to entice, manipulate, and seduce them.

There are individuals who attempt to sexually exploit children through the use of on-line services and the Internet. Some of these individuals gradually seduce their targets through the use of attention, affection, kindness, and even gifts.

There are other individuals, however, who immediately engage in sexually explicit conversation with children. Some offenders primarily collect and trade child-pornographic images, while others seek face-to-face meetings with children via on-line contacts.

It's important for parents to understand that children can be indirectly victimized through conversation, i.e. "chat," as well as the transfer of sexually explicit information and material.

Computer-sex offenders may also be evaluating children they come in contact with on-line for future face-to-face contact and direct victimization.

Parents and children should be aware that a computer-sex offender (online predator) can be any age or sex. The person does not have to fit the caricature of a dirty, unkempt, older man wearing a raincoat to be someone who could harm a child.

Watch for Warning Signs Concerning Your Child's Online Activity

Is your child online late at night?
Is the online activity excessive (over two hours on average per day)? This, of course, is not school- or homework-related online time.
Is your child alone for most of the time during his or her online sessions?
Is your child spending the majority of his or her time online in chat rooms?
Is your child reluctant to talk about or evasive in describing his or her online experiences?
Does your child minimize the screen on the computer when you walk by? Or do you notice several programs showing in the task bar at the bottom of the screen, but no programs active on the monitor? This is a sure sign that something your child does not want you to see is hiding in the task bar.

So, how can we assure our beloved children's safety and
Help Protect Them from an Online Predator?

Protecting our children on the Internet is not difficult when we use the proper tools. And as parents we have signed on, from the day our children were born, to an awesome responsibility for their well-being. We have also signed on to teach them, guide them, and watch them as they grow and learn.
